“That it is possible to spend a lifetime in a magellanic voyage around the trunk of a single tree. That as the exploration is pressed, it will engage more of the things close to the human heart and spirit.”
- E.O. Wilson
Inspired by Edward O. Wilson’s book, Biophilia, this ongoing body of work is centered around the exploration of instinct. Initially termed by Erich Fromm, Biophilia is a hypothesis that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life. By observing color, movement and perspectives of the natural world, I seek to engage with my own innate curiosity to connect with other forms of life.
Film photography is an important part of my creative process because it necessitates delayed feedback requiring self-trust in the creation of my experience. I am able to abandon a sense of perfection by welcoming light leaks, and the unexpected beauty of expired and slower speed films.
